Labour Party Announces Edo Election Campaign Council, Replaces Suspended Youth Leader

229

The Labour Party has officially announced its campaign council for the upcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State and suspended its Youth Leader, Ken Omusi.

The campaign council, which will be inaugurated on May 13, 2024, will be led by Reverend Sam Omede as the Director-General, with Dr Ehikioya Agboga serving as the Deputy Director.

The campaign council will also include notable political figures such as Senator Ned Imasuen and House representatives Esosa Iyawe and Murphy Osaro Omoruyi.

Kelly Ogbaloi, the state party chairman, announced during a press briefing on Saturday following a stakeholder meeting at the party’s secretariat in Benin City.

Top local and national officials, including the party’s governorship candidate, Barrister Olumide Akpata, and his running mate, Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, attended the meeting.

Addressing the recent disturbances within the party, Ogbaloi revealed that the Youth Leader, Omusi, was suspended due to his involvement in an alleged invasion of the party’s secretariat on Thursday. As a result, Dan Ero from Oredo Local Government Area has been chosen to replace Omusi.

Furthermore, Ogbaloi disclosed that previous suspensions have been lifted to foster unity and that a reconciliation committee will be established to address ongoing grievances among members.

Ogbaloi appealed to party members and local voters to support the Labour Party’s candidates, Barr Akpata and Prince Kadiri, in the upcoming election.

He also urged the party members to take advantage of the new voter registration exercise to expand their voter base.
