Nigeria’s antigraft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has listed 58 ex-governors it investigated or is under investigation for corruption, amounting to N2.187 trillion.
These former governors allegedly embezzled N2.187 trillion, excluding seized properties in different parts of the country.
However, compared to the state budget, the alleged embezzled funds are equivalent to the Lagos State 2024 budget (N2.25 trillion) and the entire southeast states (N2.29 trillion) combined.
Meanwhile, among the 58 former governors listed below, some are being probed, while others have been examined, investigated and prosecuted.

- TA Orji and Sons of Abia State probed for N551 billion
- James Ngilari of Adamawa State probed for N167 million
- Goodwill Akpabio, now 10th Senate-Assembly Speaker from Akwa Ibom State, probed for N100 billion
- Willie Obiano of Anambra State was probed for N43 billion and has recently pleaded not guilty
- Adamu Muazu, Isa Yuguda, and Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State probed for N13 billion, N212 billion, and N8.5 billion accordingly.
- DSP Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State probed for N2.655 billion
- Gabriel Suswam and Samuel Ortom of Benue State probed for N3.111 billion and N107 billion
- Ali Mode-Sheriff of Borno State probed for N300 billion
- James Ibori of Delta State, probed for N40 billion, jailed and prosecuted in UK prison
- Lucky Igbinedion of Edo State probed for N4.5 billion
- Kayode Fayemi and Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State both probed for N4 billion and N6.9 billion accordingly
- Chimaroke Nnamani and Sullivan Chime of Enugu State both probed for N5.3 billion and N450 million accordingly
- Danjuma Goje of Gombe State probed for N5 billion
- Achike Udenwa and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State both probed for N350 million and N10.8 billion accordingly
- Sule Lamido and Saminu Turaki of Jigawa State both probed for N1.35 billion and N36 billion accordingly
- Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State probed for N700 million
- Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State, now a presidential candidate of NNPP, probed for N10 billion
- Adamu Aliero, Usman Dakingari and the wife of Kebbi State probed for N10 billion and N5.8 billion accordingly
- Idris Wada, Late Abubakar Audu, and recently Yahaya Bello of Kogi State probed for N500 million, N10.966 billion and N80.2 billion accordingly
- Abdul Fatah Ahmed of Kwara State probed for N9 billion
- Abdullahi Adamu, Aliyu Doma, and Tanko Al’Makura of Nasarawa State probed for N15 billion, N8 billion and N4 billion accordingly
- Abdulkadir Kure and Babangida Aliyu of Niger State both probed for N600 million and N4 billion
- Rashid Ladoja and Christopher Alao-Akala of Oyo State both probed for N4.7 billion and N11.5 billion
- Jonah Jang and Joshua Dariye of Plateau State both probed for N6.3 billion and N1.16 billion
- Peter Odili of Rivers State, probed for N100 billion
- Attahiru Bafarawa and Aliyu Wamako of Sokoto State both probed for N19.6 billion and N15 billion
- Jolly Nname and Darius Ishaku of Taraba State both probed for N1.64 billion and N39 billion
- Bello Mattawale and Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State both probed for N70 billion and N100 billion, accordingly.
However, Ebonyi, Kastina, and Ogun State did not make the list.
