El Salvador President, Bukele orders investigation into Executive Branch for bribery
L-R: Attorney General, Rodolfo Antonio Delgado Montes & President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele ordered the Attorney General, Rodolfo Antonio Delgado Montes, to investigate the Executive Branch for bribery “retroactively and in the future”.

Bukele, in his commitment to leaving a clean legacy, issued the directive in the hope of retiring as a president who not only did not steal but also ensured that members of his administration were clean.

The announcement came after the Fiscalía General de la República El Salvador (FGRSV) ordered the arrest of the Presidential Commissioner, Christian Herson Flores Sandoval, for “Improper Bribery.”

According to the FGRSV,

The investigations show that Flores, using his position as Presidential Commissioner, demanded money from people and companies in exchange for benefits and preferential participation in the government’s strategic projects.

Meanwhile, in a way, Bukele has shown an example to reiterate its commitment to a bribe-free El Salvador, stating that,

If God allows it, our war against corruption will be as successful as our war against gangs.

If there’s one thing I fear, it’s leaving a bad legacy, says Bukele while discussing it with executive branch members.

Bukele further narrates how some past presidents are either on the run or imprisoned for bribery and corruption; he said that is not how he wants to be remembered.

Also, Bukele expressed that he would never be a president who doesn’t steal, but others around him steal, hence the need for the entire executive branch investigation.
