819

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, attributes her success in the music industry to the trailblazing efforts of female artists before her. Recognising these women’s sacrifices, Simi acknowledges their role in breaking barriers and paving the way for her achievements.

In a recent conversation with African Folder,

Simi emphasised the hard work of these female artists, who defied the norms and challenged the male-dominated industry. She humbly credits her success to their trailblazing efforts, stating,

Some women have worked hard to damn the status quo. So, I won’t give myself much credit other than because I also benefited from other women who came before me.

Simi began her career as a gospel artist before transitioning to secular music in 2014. Reflecting on her journey, she admitted in an interview that she shifted from gospel music because it wasn’t financially rewarding.
