The Socio-Economic Right and Accountability Project (SERAP) has demanded that the federal government reverse the unlawful increase in the electricity Tariff from N66 to N225.

The organisation made this demand via its official X account on Wednesday, stating:

“The Tinubu administration must reverse the apparently unlawful increase in electricity tariff from N66 to N225 pending the hearing and determination of the suit we filed on the matter to protect the integrity of the judicial process and the rule of law.”

SERAP threatened to file a lawsuit against Tinubu’s government over plots to increase electricity tariff in February.

Disregarding this, the Tinubu-led government on Wednesday, April 3rd, approved the increase in electricity tariff targeting Band A electricity consumers in the country, stating that the rise will demand the customers to pay N225 kilowatt per hour from the current N66.

Issuing fresh threats, SERAP has again announced it would sue the Tinubu administration over this unlawful increase in electricity tariff to N225 from the current N66.

“We’re suing the Tinubu administration over the arbitrary increase in electricity tariff from N66 to N225 despite the difficult economic realities in the country and the pending lawsuit on the matter.”
