EFCC Denies Shooting Allegations at Kwara State University, Labels Claims as Fabricated

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied allegations of shooting students during an operation at Kwara State University hostels.
Recall that it was reported that residents and students of KWASU environs, in a recent outburst on Friday, reported gunshots and tear gas shots at student protesters who matched out to confront the discrimination and generalisation of crimes among students by the security agencies, including the EFCC, NDLEA, and Police force. Yet, one student was reportedly killed during the outburst
In a statement shared by Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media & Publicity, on the EFCC’s official account, the commission stated that no student was shot.
The EFCC emphasized that the reported shooting, as conveyed by an online platform, was entirely false. The statement highlighted that the Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC did not visit Kwara State University on Thursday, February 22, 2024, nor did they conduct any joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
It stated that its only operation occurred a day earlier, involving the arrest of 48 students of Kwara State University. This operation was described as well-coordinated and professional, without any incident, and no other agency was involved.
The EFCC urged the public to be cautious of fabricated stories aimed at distorting its activities or stirring public sentiment against the Commission.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to addressing all forms of economic and financial crimes in Nigeria, undeterred by blackmail.
