Beyoncé Makes History as First Black Woman to Top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart

Beyoncé is the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with her track “Texas Hold’ Em.” Released alongside “16 Carriages” during the Super Bowl, the achievement adds to several historical moments in chart rankings. Beyoncé became the second solo female artist to debut at No. 1 and the first woman to lead both the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts since their inception.

The multi-metric chart reflects the track’s widespread appeal, with impressive streaming and download numbers within four days of tracking. However, categorising “Texas Hold’ Em” as a country track initially sparked controversy, with a radio station refusing to play it until a viral campaign prompted a reversal.

This echoed past debates within the country music industry, notably surrounding Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” in 2019. Beyoncé’s success challenges industry norms and highlights her enduring impact and artistic innovation.
