The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Plc has clarified that the current shortage of power supply affecting its customers in the South-East region is beyond its control. The company attributes this situation to insufficient energy generation, resulting in a decrease in available power.

Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, conveyed this message on Monday, urging customers to bear with the company during this period. The widespread power outages in the area have led to a slowdown in commercial and economic activities, prompting many businesses to cease operations due to the high costs of fuel and diesel required for power generation.

According to Ezeh, the reduced energy generation has led to a decrease in the daily megawatt hours allocated to distribution companies nationwide, consequently impacting customer service quality. He said:

“We understand the inconveniences this situation has caused our esteemed customers and appeal for their understanding as it is beyond us. We can only distribute what is allocated to us. Efforts are being made by the various stakeholders in the power sector to address this issue, and we hope this yields positive results so that normal distribution will return.

Despite the current circumstances, Ezeh reassured customers of EEDC’s commitment to delivering improved services.
