Qatar has won their second Asian Cup in a row with a 3-1 final win over Jordan on Saturday, February 10.

This victory makes Qatar the first team to win consecutive Asian cup titles since Japan in 2000 and 2004.

Qatar’s forward, Akram Afif, scored all three goals for his country from the penalty spot at Lusail Stadium, Qatar, making him the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals.

After Jordan’s Yazan Al Naimat tied the game in the second half, Qatar got ahead with two more penalties, both confirmed by Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

With the victory, Qatar has made a spectacular return from their dismal World Cup performance as hosts in 2022. Despite having a new coach, in the person of Márquez López, Qatar performed well in the tournament, beating the likes of China, Uzbekistan, Iran and Jordan to clinch the title.

Playing in their first Asian Cup final, Jordan managed to level the score at 1-1, but failed to keep up after Qatar’s penalty wins.
