Residents of Minna, the Niger State capital on Monday, took to the streets to protests the unbearable cost of living in the country, blocking major roads within the city.

The disgruntled residents of Minna municipal, many of which were women, youths, and children chanted protest songs to register their economic displeasures.

One of the protesters expressed the reason for road blocks as;

The rising cost of food items and poor government effort to arrest the situation forced us to block major roads so that government will hear our cry.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga had earlier argued that the comparative cost of living indices shows that Nigerians still enjoy the lowest cost of living in Africa.

The Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba, while addressing the protesters, said the government is aware of the pain and hardship families are faced with at this time.

“The government is working towards reducing the cost of living and consequences of the petrol subsidy removal,” he said.

The story is still developing.
