Grammy Night Twists: Rapper Killer Mike Arrested After Wins

558

Rapper Killer Mike faced a surprising turn of events at the 2024 Grammys, where he was arrested for misdemeanor battery after winning three awards earlier in the evening. The LAPD escorted him out of the Crypto.com Arena, as captured in videos posted by Hollywood Reporter writer Chris Gardner on X/Twitter.

Despite the unexpected incident, Killer Mike’s lawyer confirmed his release and shared plans for him to celebrate his triumphant night. The rapper clinched victories in all three nominated categories: Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Scientists & Engineers” and Best Rap Album for “Michael.”

The arrest followed a notable mix-up during the Grammy’s premiere ceremony, where the Recording Academy mistakenly posted on X that Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World” had won Best Rap Song. The post was swiftly deleted, causing a stir among fans. Nicki Minaj, who has previously criticized the Recording Academy for perceived biases, faced yet another controversy, raising questions about the industry’s dynamics.

Killer Mike’s journey at the Grammys marked his first wins since 2003, adding a twist to an evening already filled with surprises and controversies.
