“Unlike Peter Obi, Atiku Has Not Called To Commiserate With Me” – Seyi Makinde

Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde has praised the Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential candidate, Peter Obi for paying him a commiseration visit following the recent devastating explosion that occurred on Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija, Ibadan on January 16 of 2024, leaving five dead and over 77 residents injured.

During the encounter at the State Governor’s office, Makinde expressed in gratitude to the kind gesture of sympathy expressed by the opposition party leader, Peter Obi, while stating that his Party leader of the People’s Democratic leader, Mr. Atiku Abubakar hasn’t expressed such concern.

His statement read in part:

“Atiku who is my leader has not even called or sent text message over the explosion. I thank you because politics didn’t see things to this. You came here to commiserate with us over the explosion.

Three musketeers contested the last presidential election. Tinubu has reached out to me; you (Peter Obi) has reached out to me. But my own party candidate, Atiku Abubakar, not even a call or text message. I’m saying this openly for our leader to know there’s a time for politics and a time for humanity,”

During his speech at the short meeting, Makinde urged political leaders to consider having time for not only politics, but also humanity and governance. Accompanying Peter Obi were Aisha Yesufu, Dele Farotimi and other key members of the Labour Party.

According to Makinde, investigations are still ongoing and the illegal miners will be brought to book. It will be recalled that he earlier submitted a report about the incident to the President, on Monday 22nd January, 2024.
