Gunmen disguise as ‘herdsmen’ abduct 10 in Abuja Estate

On Sunday evening in Sagwari Layout Estate, located in Dutse, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) within the Bwari Area Council witnessed a group of armed kidnappers, disguised as herdsmen, executed a daring attack, abducting a total of eight residents from the estate.

Shockingly, the assailants further escalated their assault by targeting two employees from a nearby hotel.

The invasion, occurring around 7:30 pm, saw the kidnappers forcefully guiding their captives towards the nearby hills behind the estate.

Efforts to counter this brazen act by security personnel and the estate’s security team were met with strong resistance.

The marauders, wielding superior firepower, strategically fired from elevated positions atop the hills, making any rescue attempt incredibly challenging.

It should be recalled that in response to the escalating security threats, the FCT Police Command had previously reassured residents, especially those in Ushafa, Bwari, and surrounding areas, of their safety.

Additional police forces were deployed to proactively address and curtail such security risks.

Notably, Ushafa, a location merely five minutes away from the Dutse estate, falls within the ambit of this heightened security concern.

CP Haruna Garba, the FCT Police Commissioner, undertook a visit to various areas in Bwari following prior kidnapping reports. This visit aimed to assess and strategize measures to bolster security in the region.

However, the happenings have led to curiosity on the part of the residents on what steps will be taken by the security operatives to put an end to this menace.
