Rwanda Ban Kenya’s Antifungal Drug

617

Rwandan health authorities have taken swift action following safety concerns surrounding antifungal tablets produced in Kenya.

The Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (RFDA) issued a recall notice for all batches of 200 mg Fluconazole tablets manufactured by the Kenyan company Universal Corporation.

The directive, aimed at importers, mandates the return of these tablets due to discolouration issues discovered by the RFDA.

Specifically, four bulk batches of pink Fluconazole 200mg tablets showed white discolouration shortly after their shelf life began once imported into Rwanda.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the RFDA emphasized that some of these discoloured tablets had already entered the Rwandan market.

Consequently, retailers and health facilities have been instructed to cease distribution and return the affected drugs immediately.

As a precautionary measure, health officials in Rwanda have launched an investigation to ascertain whether these potentially compromised drugs have caused any adverse effects among consumers.

Amid these developments, Kenyan authorities are yet to announce whether the same antifungal drug, commonly used to treat fungal or yeast infections, will also undergo a recall within the local market.
