Tinubu Summons New Ondo Governor to Scold Him

1.3k

Some elders in the State had allegedly called the President and asked him to caution the newly sworn-in governor who, according to them, had no respect for his predecessor who hadn’t even been buried yet. The former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, died of cancer in the early hours of Wednesday, 27 December, and Aiyedatiwa was sworn in later in the day.

According to a source who pled anonymity, many people had a problem with the tone of the swearing-in. They thought it should have been a solemn affair with no ‘congratulatory’ messages, at least not yet.

Tinubu has reportedly honoured the elders’ plea and summoned Aiyedatiwa to Lagos for a meeting.

The President has recently expended more effort mediating the affairs of several state governors than presiding over national issues. A typical example is the alacrity in summoning the new governor against the delay in addressing the Plateau killings.

It remains to be seen if Aiyedatiwa will toe the line Tinubu draws during their meeting like Fubara or if he will stand his ground, but since there are rumours that he intends to contest in the 2024 Ondo State gubernatorial elections, chances are that he will take the line tow option.
