Taraji P. Henson Speaks Out on Hollywood Pay Disparities: “I’m Tired of Working So Hard for a Fraction”

Taraji P. Henson, the accomplished 53-year-old actress with over two decades in the industry, has expressed her frustration over receiving only a “fraction” of her salary despite years of hard work in a candid conversation with Gayle King on Sirius XM.

Henson shared, “Working hard and being gracious at what I do, I find myself getting paid a fraction of the cost. It’s a sentiment echoed by many in the industry, and the math simply doesn’t add up.” She elaborated on the financial intricacies, revealing that substantial portions of earnings go to taxes and supporting her professional team. The actress emphasized the common misconception surrounding reported earnings, emphasizing the significant deductions before reaching the actor’s account.

The star of ‘The Color Purple‘ opened up emotionally about the challenges she faces during renegotiations, often finding herself back at the starting point despite breaking glass ceilings. 

“I’m tired. It wears on you because what is that telling you? If I can’t fight for those coming up behind me, then what am I doing?” 

In her poignant remarks, Henson revealed a refusal to let the industry “steal your soul,” emphasizing her commitment to resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.
