China’s participation in Egypt’s MISRAT-2 satellite launch marked a milestone in space technology in the region. Collaboration between these two countries has paved the way for innovative advancements. Sherif Sedky, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), told the China Global Television Network (CGTN) that China has helped Egypt become Africa’s pioneer in the space sphere, with the launch representing a significant breakthrough for the African continent.
Following the launch of a remote-sensing satellite into orbit from a launch centre in north-west China on Monday, Egypt’s space agency director praised collaboration with China in space technology.
The MISRAT-2 satellite, launched at 12:10 p.m. (Beijing Time) on December 5th by a Long March-2C carrier rocket, will also be utilised in agriculture and water conservation.
“We can monitor urban development as well as determine changes in water level in the river, which is very important for us,” Sedky added. “We can track agriculture and determine crop distribution across the country.”
“The resolution of this satellite is quite high compared to the previous civilian satellites that we had, so having the two-meter resolution will serve a broader sector of interests for different governmental entities and the different users of the satellite images.”
According to the head of the space agency, the transfer of expertise from China would also benefit the entire continent.
