According to reports, Police in Nairobi arrested and assaulted paramedics during live coverage on CNN. The paramedics, who had identified themselves, were apprehended amidst ongoing protests against the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Kenya’s Generation Z has declared a week-long protest to express their undying determination to oppose the Finance Bill 2024 despite passing its second reading at the East African Nations’ Parliament on Thursday.

The protest, dubbed #OccupyParliament, started on Tuesday, 18 June and has morphed into #OccupyStateHouse following the murder of a protestor, Rex Kanyike, who allegedly was shot by a state-sponsored police officer in a regular outfit.

The Youth have continued to be defiant in their online presence and have developed a dynamic hashtag dubbed #TotalShutDown to ensure their demands are met.

With a widely shared poster on X and other social platforms, the youth revealed that they would be undergoing a week-long protest, which they say would be to show solidarity for the slain Kanyike.

Kenya’s Protesters Demands

Also, the poster outlined actionable points from Friday, 21st June, to Thursday, 27th June 2024, while demanding the Kenyan government reject the contentious Finance Bill.

The protest dubbed ‘7 Days of Rage’ will also be a series of demonstrations serving as a warning to Members of Parliament who voted in support of the Finance Bill on Thursday against the will of their respective constituents.

To ensure justice, the protesters have also made it essential to coerce multi-agency bodies to monitor and probe every incident of police brutality as the protest continues through the month’s end.
