Whoopi Goldberg and Sister Act 2 Cast Reunite on The View for 30th Anniversary, Recreate Iconic ‘Oh Happy Day’ Scene

In a heartwarming celebration of nostalgia and talent, Whoopi Goldberg orchestrated a spectacular reunion on The View, marking the 30th anniversary of the beloved film “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.” Bringing together the original kid actors from the film, Goldberg embarked on a journey down memory lane to recreate the iconic “Oh Happy Day” choir scene.

The magic of the reunion was Goldberg, reprising her role as Sister Mary Clarence from the film, directing a choir composed of the original cast members and the lead vocalist Ryan Toby, who stole hearts as the young Ahmal in the movie, lent his soulful voice to “Oh Happy Day,” transporting viewers back in time with his stirring rendition.

The reunion wasn’t just about reliving past glory. It was a testament to the enduring bonds forged on set. Joined by original cast members, including Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Monica Calhoun, and more, Goldberg’s initiative rekindled the camaraderie that defined the film’s production.

However, not all cast members made it physically to the reunion. While the absence of Lauryn Hill, renowned for her portrayal of Rita Louise Watson, was felt, the incomparable Tanya Trotter from The War and Treaty stepped in to deliver a breathtaking performance of “Joyful, Joyful.” Goldberg herself was moved to tears by the sheer emotional resonance of the moment.

The reunion was a testament to the enduring impact of “Sister Act 2” on its cast and audiences. Expressing her long-standing desire to revisit the franchise, Goldberg had earlier teased the possibility of “Sister Act 3”.

Goldberg’s enthusiasm for a sequel has never wavered, with plans in motion to bring the beloved franchise back to the big screen. In collaboration with the prolific Tyler Perry, she’s spearheading efforts to develop the next instalment, with a script in the works and casting of Keke Palmer and Lizzo.
