The 24-year-old forward was officially named the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Footballer of the Year following an exceptional season with Napoli, recognized at the AIC Oscar del Calcio Awards late Monday evening.

Osimhen clinched the 2023 title due to his outstanding goal-scoring prowess. He netted 26 times in 32 Serie A appearances during Napoli’s triumphant Scudetto campaign.

The AIC awards, originating in 1968, encompass various prestigious honours, such as Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Club of the Year, and Goal of the Season.

It should be recalled that Victor Osimhen secured the 8th position at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony held in Paris, making history as the first Nigerian player to enter the top ten of the Ballon d’Or rankings.

However, facing challenges at the start of the 2023-24 season and coping with recent injury setbacks, Osimhen has maintained an impressive goals-per-game ratio, scoring six goals in 10 games by the 14th week, while there are rumours of wanting to leave the club, with big offers from different top clubs.

Numerous congratulatory messages have poured in for the award-winning striker from both current and former Super Eagles teammates, friends, and fans.

Osimhen posted on his X page to show appreciation to both his family and fans.

‘‘Thank you @GranGalaAIC for the recognition and awards, thank you my family, friends, and supporters for ur votes and unending support. GOD is the Greatest’’
