Several countries have on Saturday January 27, suspended their funding of The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
This is coming after Israel alleged that some UNRWA staff were involved in the October 7 attacks carried out by Hamas militants.
The United States, Canada, Italy, Finland, United Kingdom, Australia and the Netherlands are the 7 countries that have halted their funding of UNRWA so far.
UNRWA is an agency under United Nations that offers humanitarian assistance and protection to Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank. It was established on December 8, 1949 as a subsidiary organ of the United Nations General Assembly. It began operating from May 1, 1950.
