Trump Survives Assassination Attempt by 20-year-old Man at Pennsylvania Rally

Former U.S. President Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.

The incident witnessed multiple gunshots that plunged the gathering into chaos.

Trump, who was shot in the ear, was immediately surrounded by Secret Service agents and rushed to his SUV while pumping his fist in a show of defiance.

Despite the injury, Trump’s campaign team assured supporters that he was doing “fine,” confirming on his social media site that the bullet had pierced the upper part of his right ear.

“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place,” Trump wrote.

The FBI identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

Kevin Rojek, Special Agent head of the FBI’s Pittsburgh Field Office, responded at a press conference, That is our assessment at this time.”

The agency confirmed that Crooks, who attacked from an elevated position outside the rally venue at a farm show in Butler, was shot dead by Secret Service agents.

“It is surprising” that the gunman was able to open fire on the stage before the Secret Service killed him.”

The incident also claimed the life of one attendee and left two spectators critically injured. All three victims were identified as men.

This attack marks the most serious assassination attempt on a U.S. president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981.

The incident has heightened concerns about political violence in the country, especially with the presidential election less than four months away.

It is expected to influence the security measures at the Republican National Convention, set to begin Monday in Milwaukee.

However, organisers have confirmed that the convention will proceed as planned.

Following the attack, Trump visited a local Pennsylvania hospital before flying to New Jersey.

He landed shortly after midnight at Newark Liberty International Airport, where he was greeted by an unusual show of force from U.S. Secret Service agents and heavily armed members of the agency’s counter-assault team.

President Joe Biden, who is running against Trump, was briefed on the incident and spoke to Trump several hours after the shooting.

In public remarks, Biden condemned the violence. “There’s no place in America for this type of violence,” he said. “It’s sick. It’s sick.”
