Tobi Amusan Named Nigeria’s Flagbearer for 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

Tobi Amusan has been selected as Nigeria’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Amusan, the Women’s 100m hurdle world record-holder, became the first athlete in 20 years to receive this prestigious honour since Mary Onyali at the Athens 2004 Games.

The Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Sports, made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

Her selection as flagbearer underscores her achievements and the respect she commands in the country and beyond.

Amusan’s journey to this moment has been marked by dedication and perseverance, making her a role model for aspiring athletes across Nigeria.

In another pivotal appointment, the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) appointed badminton player Anuoluwapo Opeyori as the General Team Captain for the Nigerian contingent at Paris 2024.

Anuoluwapo Opeyori, known for his achievements in badminton, will lead Team Nigeria and will be responsible for fostering unity and camaraderie among athletes from various sporting backgrounds.

His leadership as General Team Captain is expected to inspire and motivate Nigerian athletes to strive for excellence and uphold the nation’s sporting pride during the Paris Olympics.

The Nigerian Olympic Committee expressed confidence in Amusan and Opeyori, highlighting their exemplary dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership qualities.
