A tragic tanker explosion in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has claimed the lives of at least three persons.
The incident occurred Tuesday morning at the Obiri-Ikwerre area of Obio/Akpor LGA. A truck carrying gas cylinders fell at the interchange and ignited.
The ensuing fire caused panic, as three cylinders exploded, and residents mistook the sounds for dynamite, according to reports.
The tanker, reportedly transporting Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), overturned and exploded while navigating the roundabout along the East-West Road.
Firefighters, supported by police and other agencies, extinguished the blaze and redirected traffic.
Fortunately, the truck driver escaped unharmed, but sadly, three people lost their lives, as confirmed by the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko.
