Thomas Tuchel to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season

Bayern Munich has announced that head coach Thomas Tuchel will leave the club at the end of the current season.

This decision comes after both the club and Tuchel engaged in what was described as “fair and positive discussions,” ultimately leading to a mutual agreement to part ways.

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen conveyed the club’s stance: “In an open, good conversation, we decided to end our collaboration in the summer mutually.

Our goal is to carry out a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024/25 season.” Despite recent setbacks, Dreesen emphasised the team’s commitment to achieving success in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga.

Tuchel affirmed this and noted, “We will end our collaboration after this season. Until then, I and my coaching team will, of course, continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success.”

The announcement marked the end of Tuchel’s tenure, which began in March 2023, following his appointment as the successor to Julian Nagelsmann.

The former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain manager’s departure came amidst several disappointing results for Bayern, including recent Bundesliga losses to Leverkusen and Bochum.

Bayern trailed Leverkusen by eight points in the league standings after 22 games and faced elimination in the DFB-Pokal.

Looking ahead, Bayern Munich has reportedly initiated a search for Tuchel’s successor, with Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp emerging as top contenders for the prestigious role.

Jurgen Klopp had earlier announced he would be stepping down as Liverpool coach at the end of the season.
