Four of Nigeria’s biggest music exports – Tems, Asake, Rema, and Wizkid have been nominated for the Favourite Afrobeats category at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMA).

Returning after a two-year break, the prestigious awards show will be held on May 25, 2025, with global pop icon Jennifer Lopez set to host the night. This year’s edition, the 51st, will air live on CBS.

Tems, who made waves with her debut album Born In The Wild, and Rema, who dropped his critically acclaimed second project HEIS, are riding high after recent Grammy nominations. Their presence in the AMA lineup reflects their growing international appeal and the global thirst for Afrobeats.

Joining them are Asake, known for his electrifying style and his third album Lungu Boy, and Wizkid, who continues to chart new territory with his sixth studio album Morayo. The duo’s hit collaboration MMS earned them Grammy nods for Best African Song Performance and helped secure their AMA nominations.

The Nigerian stars will be against South African sensation Tyla in the Afrobeats category. She competes for Favourite Female R&B Artist alongside heavyweights like SZA, Kehlani, Muni Long, and Summer Walker.

For fans across Africa, this moment is more than just nominations. It’s a celebration of a sound that has gone from the streets of Lagos and Johannesburg to centre stage in Hollywood.
