Tems Triumphs: Grammy Winner and Oscar Nominee Strikes Gold Again with Solo Single ‘Not an Angel’

It’s called ‘Spirit.’ It’s new to you all; some are tryna tap into it, creating fusions of it. Which means it’s growing.” Tems replied to a fan on the twitter/X platform on 17th November 2020 when asked about what genre of music the singer falls into.

Temilade Openiyi, renowned as Tems, is a genre-defying artist seamlessly traversing soul, R&B, and afrobeat. Her emotive voice transcends conventional boundaries, weaving a captivating sonic tapestry. Infusing vulnerability and strength into her work, Tems stands out in the contemporary music scene. With chart-toppers like “Essence” featuring Wizkid and a remix with Justin Bieber, reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, she gained international acclaim.

Notably, her collaboration with Future on “Wait for U” debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, marking her as the first African artist to achieve this feat. Tems further solidified her global impact, clinching a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance and contributing to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. Her stellar career boasts numerous accolades, including Osacr nomination, Golden globe nomination, NAACP Image Awards, BET Awards, and Soul Train Music Awards, showcasing her multifaceted talent and songwriting finesse.

Tems released a song titled “Me & You” on 5 October 2023. The song was met with positive reviews and became a sensational video sound for listeners worldwide. According to her, “‘Me & U’ is about discovering the real me, building a genuine relationship with the Creator, and gaining a true perception of self.” The song was later accompanied by a video, which was well put up and showcased a full artistry feeling from Tems when watching it.

Just recently, she released another single titled “Not an Angel.” “This song is about knowing your worth and moving on in life from anything holding you back,” the singer says of the second 2023 single which was accompanied by a visualizer directed by Nakato and Lemost. Fans are excited about this new release, and it’s already on repeat for many lovers of the “Wait for You Singer.” Tems is a great writer and writes most of her songs. It’s soothing knowing that she’s already pioneering Afrobeats in the world and that now Afrobeats can stop its biases against women in music. The anticipation for her album is on a roll out with these two singles already released. Fans can’t wait to have this new album from her come 2024.
