Nigerian sensation Tems took the stage at Coachella 2024 on Sunday night, delivering a standout performance that featured surprise appearances from Justin Bieber and Wizkid. The trio teamed up for a rendition of their hit track “Essence,” much to the delight of fans in attendance.

Originally released in 2020, “Essence” gained widespread popularity over time, eventually making its mark on Billboard’s charts nine months after its debut. Tems made history in September 2021 when the song topped Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, becoming the first Afrobeats track to do so. It also made its way into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, at No. 9.

Bieber, known for his chart-topping hits, showcased his talent alongside Tems and Wizkid, despite facing health challenges in recent years. The Canadian pop star, who battled Ramsay Hunt syndrome in 2022, appeared in top form as he effortlessly commanded the Coachella stage.

For Bieber, the Coachella performance marked a triumphant return to the spotlight following health issues that led to the cancellation of his 2022 Justice World Tour. His energetic performance is sure to excite fans and spark anticipation for more live shows in the future.

Tems, honoured as Billboard’s 2024 Women in Music Breakthrough recipient, used the platform to inspire women worldwide, emphasising the importance of unity and support among women. Reflecting on her journey, she shared her realisation of the power behind her name, “Temi,” meaning “the crown is mine,” and how it resonates with her life’s trajectory.

As Coachella continues with headliners like Tyler, the Creator, Doja Cat, and Lana Del Rey, Tems’ electrifying performance alongside Justin Bieber and Wizkid stands out as a highlight of the festival’s first weekend.
