Queen Lateefah And Farmer’s Bride Gross ₦95.3 Million In Record-Breaking Nollywood Opening Weekend

Nollywood’s box office hit a new milestone as Queen Lateefah and Farmer’s Bride earned ₦95.3 million in their opening weekend.

Released on September 27, 2024, both films dominated the Nigerian box office, with Queen Lateefah grossing ₦58 million. Produced by Wumi Toriola in her cinematic production debut, the film secured the highest non-holiday weekend gross for a Nollywood movie. Its storyline centred on a deceptive businesswoman with hidden struggles, resonated with audiences, while its star-studded cast, Kunle Remi, Nancy Isime, Femi Adebayo and Broda Shaggi, drew significant attention.

On the other hand, Farmer’s Bride garnered ₦37.3 million. Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie, set in 1980s Ibadan, explores themes of love, betrayal, and the supernatural. Its strong cast, led by Tobi Bakre and Mercy Aigbe, helped the film succeed.

Both films’ strong performances reflect Nollywood’s growing commercial viability. The stellar opening weekend further cements Nollywood’s influence, with Queen Lateefah and Farmer’s Bride setting the pace for upcoming releases.
