Port Harcourt Tech Expo 2024: Transforming Tech, Empowering Youth

The Port Harcourt Tech Expo 2024, held from April 24th to 26th at the Horlikins Event Place, brought together key players in the tech industry across the region and beyond, fostering collaboration and igniting a passion for innovation.

West Africa Weekly was on the ground to witness the event that featured distinguished speakers, including Dr Maurice Dawson (Illinois Institute of Technology), Dr Tombari Sibe (Digital Footprints Ltd), and representatives from tech giants like Microsoft. These experts shared their insights on a wide range of tech topics, including:

Legal Tech & APIs: Discussions explored how technology can streamline legal processes and the role of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in connecting different systems.

Education Technology (EdTech): Experts addressed the growing importance of EdTech in improving access to quality education and discussed innovative learning tools.

Agricultural Technology (AgTech): The expo highlighted the potential of AgTech to revolutionise farming practices and increase agricultural productivity in the region.

Media Technology (MediaTech): Representatives from Pop Central, Tech Cabal, and TVC News shared their perspectives on the ever-evolving media landscape and the role of technology in content creation and distribution.

Cybersecurity & Cybercrime: Experts discussed the growing threat of cybercrime and explored strategies for protecting businesses and individuals online.

The expo wasn’t just about talks but a hub for networking and exploring new technologies. Attendees participated in workshops (Hackathon) and panel discussions to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.

A significant highlight of the event was the NDDC’s Project HOPE initiative. This ambitious program aims to empower Niger Delta youths by providing them with skills and opportunities in various sectors, including entrepreneurship, music & arts, information technology (IT), and agriculture. The project is committed to fostering a brighter future for the region’s young people.

The event was hosted by Andre Blaze Henshaw, whose expertise and charisma kept the audience engaged. Tea breaks filled with delectable small chops provided the perfect networking opportunity. At the same time, live performances by Pere Jason of The Voice Nigeria and his band added a touch of musical flair to the proceedings.

The Port Harcourt Tech Expo 2024 was a resounding success, drawing large crowds and generating significant buzz. The event focused on collaboration, innovation, and youth empowerment, positioning itself as a critical driver of technological advancement in the South-South region and beyond.
