1.2k

Nigerian superstar Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has signaled his intention to play a key role in the evolution of Afrobeats. In a recent interview with The Beat FM in London, he declared his commitment to introducing a “new sound” that is set to redefine the Afrobeats genre in 2024 and 2025.

The ‘Soso’ crooner pointed to his latest single, ‘Holy Ghost,’ as a prime example of the innovative sound he intends to introduce to the world. He said,

“I have started a new sound of Afrobeats, and you’re going to hear more of that in 2024. ‘Holy Ghost’ is one of them, and I’m putting out an album that will showcase these new vibes.”

It will be recalled that Omah Lay has previously been a successful exponent of the dark and pensive Afrobeats subgenre known colloquially as “Afro-Depression”, alongside Cameroonian artist Libianca.
