Niger and Morocco have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening energy cooperation in a high-level meeting held in Rabat. Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition Leïla Benali welcomed Nigerien Foreign Minister Bakary Yaou Sangaré for discussions to expand collaboration between the two countries in the energy sector.
During the talks, both ministers explored strategies to enhance bilateral energy partnerships, focusing on sustainable development and the efficient use of resources. They also discussed ways to promote regional integration that could benefit not only Niger and Morocco but the broader West African and Sahelian region. The ministers highlighted the potential for joint projects in renewable energy, energy infrastructure, and technical cooperation, emphasising the need for long-term planning and shared expertise.
The meeting reflects Niger’s commitment to fostering strong African partnerships based on solidarity, mutual dialogue, and sustainable development. It also aligns with the objectives of the Alliance of Sahel States, which seeks to encourage cooperation and development across the region. Officials noted that such partnerships are critical in addressing shared challenges, including energy access, climate resilience, and economic growth.
Both countries expressed optimism that closer cooperation in the energy sector could serve as a model for regional collaboration, driving investment, innovation, and capacity building while supporting broader efforts toward economic and social development in Africa.
