Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, has denied involvement in any loan deal allegedly facilitated for the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE).

This follows a circulating post which has also been denied by Simon Ekpa, a prominent pro-Biafra activist that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had agreed to loan $57.5 billion to the BRGIE, with Okonjo-Iweala supposedly playing a role in securing the funds.

The viral post said to be from Simon Ekpa, claimed that the loan would assist in forming the Biafran government after a planned declaration of Biafra on December 2, 2024.

Okonjo-Iweala has quickly refuted the claims, emphasising the falsity of the statement. In a post on X, she stated:

I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below but in these troubled times it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!”

This clarification from Okonjo-Iweala brings attention to the increasing use of misinformation in politically sensitive issues. Reacting to Okonjo-Iweala’s dismissal, Ekpa wrote on X:

Dear Madam @NOIweala, i never tweeted such, it is even surprising that you can tweet this because your name was mentioned, we have been tweeting about the Nigeria terrorism against your people and you never responded nor showed any remorse. Here you are, defending what nonentities did with your name, but have been mute about all the killings by the government you served. I congratulate you for always defending yourself and your integrity, even when they are photoshopped. It shows you are really a mother. Thank you for defending yourself but i never tweeted such thing, it is false and fake.
