She collapsed after her performance and was rushed to the Reddington Hospital, Lagos, where she was declared dead.

Her funeral service is set to take place at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, followed by a private interment at a vault in Ikoyi. According to a funeral flyer shared by the family, the Service of Songs will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., while the burial will occur between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Onwenu, born on January 31, 1952, in Obosi, Anambra State, Nigeria, enjoyed a remarkable career that spanned music, film, politics, and journalism, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s cultural landscape. She will be remembered for all her contributions to Nigeria and beyond.
