The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have successfully neutralised a high-ranking member of a terrorist group affiliated with Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), in a targeted operation conducted on June 12, 2025.

The militant, identified as Attaye AG BOULKHEY, was described as a key figure within the katiba MEMA, a combat unit linked to the JNIM network.

According to sources, BOULKHEY was operating in the southern region of Léré, specifically near the village of Idjardahanen, where the sweep operation took place.

Military intelligence further revealed that Attaye AG BOULKHEY was the younger brother of Kabo AG BOULKHEY and Mohamed Ahmad AG BOULKHEY, both known to be prominent actors within regional armed terrorist groups (GAT). Their family connection is believed to have played a significant role in facilitating operations and coordination among extremist factions in the MEMA region.

The operation is part of the broader counterterrorism strategy led by FAMa to secure volatile zones and dismantle hostile networks destabilising central Mali.
