Kunle Afolayan Releases Trailer For New Thriller ‘Recall,’ Set For AFRIFF Premiere

Nigerian director Kunle Afolayan has released the trailer for his latest film, Recall, which will debut on November 7 at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). The psychological thriller stars Sharon Ooja in a gripping storyline set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos, where the seemingly perfect romance between protagonists Goke and Anita takes a dark and mysterious turn.

Recall boasts a strong supporting cast, including Bolaji Ogunmola, Olarotimi Fakunle, Tina Mba, Patience Ozokwor, and Bimbo Akintola. The trailer teases intense performances and a deep storyline that explores complex themes of love, mental health, and the impact of the past on present relationships.

This marks Afolayan’s second major project reveal this year, following Netflix’s renewal of his popular series, Aníkúlápó, which has brought new energy to African streaming content with fresh faces added for its upcoming season.

This year’s AFRIFF, themed “Africans for Africa; Building Global Bridges,” aims to connect African filmmakers and creators from the diaspora, fostering collaborations, production partnerships, and cultural exchanges. Known for spotlighting both seasoned and emerging filmmakers, AFRIFF offers a platform for African voices to reach global audiences, showcasing a mix of features, shorts, documentaries, and dramas that often go on to earn critical acclaim worldwide.

Recall reflects a return of psychological drama by Afolayan, reminiscent of his 2017 film Roti, where he and Kate Henshaw portrayed a mother’s emotional journey following the loss of her child. While Roti explored grief and reincarnation, Recall dives into the fragile mind of a woman grappling with reality and mental health.
