A newly appointed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Agbarho, Delta State, along with several officers, were reportedly ambushed and killed by a group of kidnappers.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday, just two days after the DPO, identified as CSP Jega, took over the division’s command.
According to sources quoted by PUNCH, the attack took place during a joint operation led by CSP Jega and the DPO of Orerokpe division, CSP Paul, who were on a mission to rescue kidnap victims.
As they approached a location near the Agbarho rail station, the officers were reportedly met with heavy gunfire from the suspected kidnappers.
During the exchange of fire, CSP Jega and several officers were killed, while CSP Paul narrowly escaped death and was rushed to a hospital, where he is being treated.
The Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the attack.
