The Chief Judge of Imo State, Justice Theresa Chukwuemeka-Chikeka, has obtained an interim injunction against the Imo State House of Assembly and other defendants regarding allegations of age falsification.

The Chief Judge of Imo State, Justice Theresa Chukwuemeka-Chikeka, has obtained an interim injunction against the Imo State House of Assembly and other defendants regarding allegations of age falsification.

Justice Chukwuemeka-Chikeka filed an ex parte motion on July 12, 2024, in which she sought an order to prevent the defendants, including the Attorney-General of Imo State, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, and the National Judicial Council, from summoning her based on a letter of invitation dated July 10, 2024.

The court granted her request, issuing an interim order of injunction to restrain the defendants from inviting or summoning her until the motion for interlocutory injunction is heard and determined.

The court’s order read, “An interim order of injunction be and is at this moment granted restraining the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd defendants from inviting or continuing to invite or summon the plaintiff.”

The court also granted the applicant’s second prayer, though the specifics of this prayer were not disclosed. The case has been adjourned to September 19, 2024, for further hearing.

The controversy began when the Imo State House of Assembly Committee started investigating allegations that Justice Chukwuemeka-Chikeka falsified her date of birth, changing it from October 27, 1956, to October 27, 1958.

The investigation was reportedly based on various individual and institution submissions, which purportedly confirmed the alteration.
