Suspected gunmen launched a late-night attack on the residence of the Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area in Katsina State, Maharazu Dayi, killing a police officer in the process.

The gunmen shot a Police Corporal, Shamsudeen Lawal, who was providing security at the residence. The officer was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, stated that law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident and arrested three suspects.

Yes, the incident happened yesterday, but our men were mobilized to the scene. The officer was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead, Sadiq told Punch in Katsina.

While it remains unclear if other residents sustained injuries, security operatives reportedly thwarted the gunmen’s attempt to gain entry into the residence. An eyewitness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Chairman Maharazu Dayi and his family were inside the house at the time of the attack.
