A former member of the House of Representatives, Cairo Ojougboh, representing the Ika federal constituency of Delta State, passed away on Wednesday night.

The 64-year-old chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met his demise while engrossed in the AFCON 2023 semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa.

Sources close to him during the incident revealed that Ojougboh’s untimely demise occurred in a heart-wrenching manner, as he collapsed during a crucial moment in the intense match.

“As soon as a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria during the AFCON match with South Africa on Wednesday’s semi-final clash in Bouake, Ivory Coast, he slumped,” a source disclosed on Thursday.

However, Nigeria emerged victorious, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili making two crucial saves to secure a 4-2 win, during the penalty shootout.
