Five people have been confirmed dead following an accident involving the campaign convoy of Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state.
The accident occurred on Thursday at Warrake Road in Uzebba, Owan West local government area.
According to reports, one of the vehicles in Okpebholo’s convoy collided with a Toyota Camry carrying five passengers.
This led to the death of all the occupants of the Camry, including the driver. The victims were reportedly returning home after attending a burial ceremony when the tragic incident occurred.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to a mortuary at Edo State University, Uzairue, in Etsako West Local Government Area.
Among the victims was Emmanuel Edionwe, whose family is said to be in shock over the loss.
“We are devastated beyond words. Emmanuel was a good, easy-going boy who should not have died,” a relative said.
Cyril Mathew, the Edo sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), confirmed the accident.
Meanwhile, one of the victims survived the crash and is in critical condition at Irrua Specialist Hospital. A delegation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is expected to visit the families of the victims today to offer condolences.
In one of the videos trending online, the mother of one of the victims was seen wailing and devastated.
“They killed my pikin my twins, when I dey suffer(sic) I dey suffer since, he tell me yesterday say he dey come, APC dem kill am finish na him dem comot, make he die for there….” she lamented.
