Sean “Diddy” Combs, the renowned US rapper and media mogul, has been arrested and indicted on federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, marking a significant development in a series of legal battles against the 54-year-old artist.
The indictment, unsealed on Tuesday, came just hours after Homeland Security Investigations agents apprehended Combs at the Park Hyatt New York hotel. The charges stem from various allegations, including claims of abuse by former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, who settled her lawsuit against the rapper in 2023. Although Combs denied all allegations, branding them as “outrageous” and “extortion attempts,” the indictment casts a darker shadow on his public image.
In addition to Ventura’s accusations, another lawsuit was filed by Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, a former producer for Diddy, who alleged sexual harassment, drugging, and threats. The mounting legal troubles also include a $100 million default judgment awarded to an inmate in Michigan, who had sued Diddy for sexual assault.
Public outcry intensified in 2024 when a 2016 video resurfaced, showing Combs physically assaulting Ventura. Although he apologised for his behaviour, admitting it was “inexcusable,” the scandal has continued to fuel public scrutiny.
In March 2024, two properties linked to Diddy were raided by federal agents as part of the investigation into the sex trafficking charges. His arrest and indictment mark the latest chapter in a high-profile case that has captured widespread attention.
Diddy has not commented on the charges following his recent arrest, but the indictment signals a turning point in his ongoing legal challenges.
