The Ebonyi State Government has announced that the death toll from the cholera outbreak in Ndibokote Village, Ezza-Inyimegu Community, has reached 15.

Moses Ekuma, the Commissioner for Health, confirmed this to reporters in Abakaliki on Friday, adding that three emergency centres have been set up to treat patients.

Meanwhile, Premium Times reported that during a visit to assess the extent of the epidemic in the community and raise awareness about the dangers of open defecation, the Chairperson of Izzi Local Government Area, Steven Nwankpa, urged residents of the affected community to stop open defecation and other unhealthy practices as this would help check the spread of the disease in the area.

Nwankpa also called on the community to postpone burial ceremonies until the outbreak is under control.
