CAF Champions League: Egypt’s Al Ahly, Pyramid and South Africa’s Pirates, Sundowns to Play Semi Final

The 2024/25 CAF Champions League semi-final stage is set as the four remaining clubs—two each from Egypt and South Africa—prepare to battle.

Following an exciting round of quarter-final fixtures, this season’s final four promises a pair of North vs South Africa showdowns.

Defending champions Al Ahly SC of Egypt continued their relentless march toward a record-extending 13th CAF Champions League title. The Cairo giants displayed their experience and composure with a 2-0 aggregate victory over Sudan’s Al Hilal, reinforcing their status as the team to beat.

Their semi-final opponents, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, were equally resolute, edging out Tunisia’s Esperance Sportive de Tunis 1-0 over two tightly contested legs.

The clash between Sundowns and Al Ahly has become one of African football’s most compelling rivalries in recent years, and another chapter awaits in what is sure to be a blockbuster tie.

In the other semi-final, Orlando Pirates continued their impressive campaign with a commanding performance to reach the last four, setting up a tantalising duel with Egypt’s rising force, Pyramids FC.

This is the first time Pyramids FC have reached this competition stage, marking a historic achievement for the Cairo-based club.
