Apapa Customs Command generates 16bn daily

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Apapa Command said it generates N16 billion daily, marking a significant leap in its financial performance. The Area Controller, Babajide Jaiyeoba, attributed this accomplishment to implementing strategic measures to enhance revenue generation.

Emphasising a zero-tolerance policy for infractions, Jaiyeoba commended the officers’ dedication and urged them to maintain vigilance in upholding the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA) 2023.

This achievement surpassed previous records, including the N11.3 billion generated on November 22 and the N10 billion generated on August 3, 2023.

Key strategies highlighted by Jaiyeoba included regular strategy meetings between the Controller and sectional heads, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

The area Controller noted that stakeholders’ engagements with government agencies, importers, exporters, and terminal operators have played a pivotal role in streamlining cargo clearance processes.

Stakeholders lauded the command’s efforts in improving container scanning procedures, resulting in time-saving measures aligned with modern customs administration standards. Jaiyeoba stressed the importance of sincere declaration, noting its role in expediting processes and fostering integrity within the trade ecosystem.

Furthermore, he stated the repercussions of non-compliance, citing potential delays, issuance of demand notices, and missed opportunities for fast-track clearance and Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status.

CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for trade facilitation. Encouraging stakeholders to embrace the scanning initiative emphasised the mutual benefits of transparent and efficient customs procedures.
