Nigeria’s U19 Female Cricket Team, known as the Junior Female Yellow Greens, has continued to capture global attention at Malaysia’s ongoing ICC T20 Cricket World Cup.

In their debut appearance at the tournament, the team surprised the cricketing world with a historic victory over New Zealand, one of the tournament’s favourites, in their opening game.

Despite a setback in their second game against South Africa, the team’s exceptional performance secured them a spot in the Super Six stage of the competition, a remarkable achievement for a team making its maiden appearance on the global stage.

This victory against New Zealand earned them praise from Nigerians and stakeholders in the cricketing world, with the enthusiasm that the team could cause another upset when they face England in a highly anticipated Super Six clash on Saturday, January 25.

To boost the team’s morale before the match, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has provided a financial incentive of $5,000. Following the encounter with England, Nigeria is scheduled to take on Ireland on January 29 as they aim to extend their impressive run in the tournament.

This is Nigeria’s first ever team to be at a cricket World Cup and recording such a big upset against cricket giant, New Zealand, to send shock waves to the entire cricket World is something we will continue to celebrate. I am sure they will create another upset against England, DG of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade stated in Malaysia.
