Nearly a decade after the heartfelt YouTube drama Before 30 struck a chord with young Nigerian women everywhere, its long-awaited sequel After 30 is finally set to reach global audiences. The film will officially premiere on Prime Video on May 9, 2025, following its international debut at the NollywoodWeek Film Festival in Paris.
Directed by Omorinsojo Spaine and co-written by Spaine, Bibi Ukpo, and BB Sasore, After 30 picks up the threads of a story many viewers still carry in their hearts. In 2015, Before 30 shone a spotlight on the lives of four Lagos-based friends navigating the social, emotional, and cultural pressures to marry before hitting the big 3-0. It was more than a series. It was a mirror for a generation of African women caught between tradition and ambition.
Now, After 30 returns with the same powerhouse cast: Damilola Adegbite, Beverly Naya, Meg Otanwa, and Anee Icha. But this time, the ticking clock is gone. Questions about love, ageing, motherhood, fulfilment, and the evolving definitions of success and happiness remain.
The film’s premise is rooted in the quiet yet powerful realities of womanhood after societal deadlines have passed. What happens when you don’t marry before 30? What if you did, and it didn’t work out? What if your dreams changed?
While the themes are deeply Nigerian, the message is global. That’s why Prime Video’s acquisition of the film is significant. Fans of the original series are in for both a dose of nostalgia and something entirely new. The characters have grown up, and so have their problems. After 30 begins streaming on Prime Video on May 9, 2025.
