AES President Expresses Condolences To Families Affected By Floods In Sahel Region

The President of the Confederation of Alliance of Sahel States (AES), Assimi Goïta, has expressed condolences to families across the Sahel region affected by recent floods that have caused significant loss of lives, injuries, and material damages.

In a press release published Saturday, Goïta extended condolences on behalf of the leaders of Burkina Faso and Niger, Captain Ibrahim Traoré and Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tiani, as well as himself, to the affected communities.

He wished the injured a swift recovery and prayed for the souls of the deceased.

The AES President also acknowledged the efforts of the governments of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, as well as the strong sense of solidarity among the people of the AES Confederation in supporting those affected by the disaster.

“May God bless the AES Confederation and protect our people!” the press release concluded.

The Sahel region has recently been facing flood challenges, with several lives lost, thousands of households displaced, and material damages incurred. On Thursday, the Nigerien government allocated 12 billion CFA Francs ($20.4 million) for flood relief and management efforts in a flood that has claimed 217 lives as of August 20.

On Friday, Mali declared a national state of natural disaster due to floods that have killed 30 people and affected over 47,000 others since the start of the rainy season in the country. The Rainy season usually gets intense between June and September in the Sahel states.
