Machete-Wielding Man Kills Security Guard at Lekki Cinema, Suspect Dies in Mob Attack

Two people have died following a violent attack at IMAX Cinemas in Lekki, Lagos State, on Friday night after a machete-wielding man stormed the premises and attacked security personnel.

The attacker, who also carried a knife, tried to enter the cinema but was stopped by security guards. Eyewitnesses said he appeared to be under the influence of drugs and became violent when he was prevented from going inside.

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson SP Adebisi Abimbola confirmed that the suspect stabbed one security guard to death and injured another during the attack. The suspect, who appeared to be destitute, was then mobbed by people at the scene and died. “Two people have been confirmed dead,” Abimbola said.

The police have taken the cinema’s Chief Security Officer into custody as part of their investigation. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the premises to determine exactly what happened and whether anyone else was involved. The identities of the deceased have not been released, and the condition of the injured guard remains unclear.

The attack has raised fresh concerns about security at entertainment venues and whether guards can effectively detect and stop dangerous individuals from entering crowded spaces.
