Mali’s Prime Minister, Major General Abdoulaye Maïga, has presented the government’s 2025 performance report, describing the year as promising despite persistent security, economic and institutional challenges.

Speaking on the state of government action, the Prime Minister outlined progress made under the leadership of Transition President, General of the Army Assimi Goïta. He said the administration remained guided by eight priority axes defined by the head of state, which have shaped a coherent roadmap for 2025 to 2026.

Security remained the government’s top priority throughout the year. According to the Prime Minister, strengthening national defense is viewed as a fundamental condition for long term stability and national reconstruction. He highlighted efforts to modernize military equipment, intensify troop training and reinforce operational capacities. Authorities also reported improved territorial control and increased pressure on armed groups operating in parts of the country.

On governance and public finance, the government pointed to what it described as encouraging results from the National Economic and Financial Unit. Officials say its performance reflects a stronger commitment to financial accountability and a more proactive fight against economic and financial crimes. Reforms have also been introduced to improve transparency, traceability and efficiency within public institutions.

In the socio economic sector, agriculture received renewed attention. The government described the sector as vital to Mali’s stability and growth, noting expanded support for farmers and rural communities. Authorities reported gradual improvements in national production, supported by targeted programs aimed at boosting rural development and food security.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the operating environment in 2025 remained difficult, shaped by ongoing security threats and broader economic pressures. However, he maintained that the government’s approach has focused on resilience and institutional consolidation. Efforts to strengthen public services and restore investor confidence, both domestic and foreign, were also highlighted as part of a broader strategy to stabilize the country.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Prime Minister struck an optimistic tone. He said that despite the obstacles faced, the country’s trajectory remains anchored in stability, justice and economic emergence. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening reforms and sustaining progress across key sectors.

The 2025 report forms part of the transitional authorities’ broader effort to demonstrate accountability and chart a clear direction as Mali continues its political and institutional transition.
